Angeliki Tzanetou (B.A. University of Athens 1988, Ph.D. University of
Illinois 1997) joined the department in 2005. Her research interests
include Greek drama, Greek political theory, gender and religion. She
is the author of City of Suppliants: Tragedy and the
Athenian Empire (under contract with University of Texas Press);
and co-editor with Maryline Parca of Finding Persephone: Women’s
Rituals in the Ancient Mediterranean (Studies in Ancient Folklore
and Popular Culture series. Bloomington-Indianapolis: Indiana
University Press 2007). She has also published articles on ritual and
gender in drama and on tragedy and politics. Among her current projects
is a study of motherhood in Greek literature and society. She also
serves as Coordinator of the Modern Greek Studies program for Classics.
