The Department of the Classics at the University of Illinois was founded in 1905 and has always been among the leading Classics departments in North America. Over the years, our faculty has included such eminent scholars as William Abbott Oldfather, Ben Edwin Perry, and Alexander Turyn. Our current faculty has achieved an international reputation through significant and continuing contributions to research in all areas of classical scholarship. We embrace a diverse curriculum that includes the study of classical languages, literature, archaeology, history, philosophy, religion, art, and textual transmission.
